History of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
The surprise attack on December 7, 1941, killed more than 2,400 Americans and damaged or sank much of the Pacific Fleet. President Franklin Roosevelt called it "a date which will live in infamy," and the United States entered World War II the next day. Congress designated the remembrance day in 1994.
