How this is calculated
- The start date is excluded and the end date is included. Dates use Eastern Time (America/New_York).
- Calendar months use end-of-month clamping, not 30-day approximations. Calendar decompositions describe elapsed time independently of endpoint flags.
- Combined offsets apply years, months, weeks, then days.
- Negative day counts indicate an end date before the start; breakdowns show positive magnitudes.
How to use the date calculator
Pick a start date, choose add or subtract, and enter any mix of years, months, weeks and days. Units are applied from largest to smallest, and months follow the calendar.
Example
March 15, 2026 plus 45 days is April 29, 2026. January 31, 2026 plus 1 month is February 28, 2026, because February has no 31st.
Common questions
- How are months added?
- As calendar months. If the target month is shorter, the result moves to its last day, so January 31 plus 1 month is February 28 (or 29 in a leap year).
- Can I add hours and minutes?
- Yes. Switch to date-and-time mode to add hours, minutes and seconds. Daylight-saving changes are taken into account.
