How this is calculated
- The start date is excluded and the end date is included. Dates use Eastern Time (America/New_York).
- Calendar months use end-of-month clamping, not 30-day approximations. Calendar decompositions describe elapsed time independently of endpoint flags.
- Negative day counts indicate an end date before the start; breakdowns show positive magnitudes.
How to use the date difference
Enter a start date and an end date. The result shows the total days, the same span in weeks and in calendar months, and how many of those days are weekdays.
Example
From January 1, 2026 to March 1, 2026 is 59 days, which is exactly 2 calendar months.
Common questions
- Does the count include the start date?
- No. By default the start date is not counted and the end date is, so Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. Choose "Include start date" if you need to count both.
- Why can 2 months be 59, 61 or 62 days?
- Months have different lengths. The calculator counts whole calendar months first, then the remaining days, instead of dividing by 30.
- Can it count business days too?
- Yes. Turn on "Also calculate business days" to skip weekends and U.S. federal holidays.
