What is GivingTuesday?
GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a global day of generosity that encourages people to donate, volunteer and help their communities. It follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a counterpoint to holiday shopping.
History of GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York City in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It has since become an independent nonprofit organization, with national campaigns in dozens of countries.
GivingTuesday today
Charities run fundraising campaigns, often with matching gifts, and people donate money, food and time. It has become one of the biggest days of the year for online charitable giving in the United States.
